This week we continue our look at popular radio shows that moved to TV This was a successful show in the middle 50s. I even remember seeing it in the morning on CBS (reruns) before my mom would watch her soap opera. I did not know it was on radio before until I got into old time radio shows in the early 70s. The TV version stars Eve Arden who did the role on the radio version as well. Here is the info on this particular show.

Mr. Conklin spends the morning locked in the cafeteria freezer when Miss Brooks unknowingly locks him in. Later, to show Mr. Boynton how “domestic” she is, Connie offers to cook dinner for him on his new stove. (Mrs. Davis immediately gets to work since Connie can’t cook.) At Mr. Boynton’s, Miss Brooks turns the stove on to heat the meal, not realizing that the appliance hasn’t been properly lit. With a kitchen full of gas, Mr. Conklin wanders in looking for his tool kit. With the kitchen light burned out, he lights a match.

And now here is Our Miss Brooks

The Life Of Riley – Babs School Election

Last week we presented a Life of Riley staring Jackie Gleason. This week we will give one with William Bendix (who was also on the radio version of the same show.) I guess they decided he would be right for the part as he was in radio. I am not sure who the people were, or if they were the same cast as radio. This has no date information but here we got with the 2nd installment of The Life Of Riley

Life Of Riley October 4, 1949 – Tonsils

To continue our look of shows that went from radio to TV here is a 2 part one. This is the Life Of Riley. Popular on radio by William Bendiz, for some reason the early TV versions had Jackie Gleason instead of William Bendix (which they later used William Bendix on the TV version as well as radio. Next week we will feature one of the shows with William Bendix.) This apparently is the first show of the TV series and here is what is said on archive.org. Jackie Gleason in The Life Of Riley Aired 10-04-49 ep01. From what I see it is about Riley getting his tonsils out. So lets see what happens in the Live Of Riley

During the month of April Mikes Mess Classic TV Presentation will do a tribute to radio shows that went to TV. Many did not do to well and others lasted for a long time. This is one that I don’t think did as well on TV as it did on Radio. Lights out. The radio version of the show was done by writer Arch Obler and was considered one of scariest shows on radio. The TV version tried to bring on TV what was popular on radio and I understand it was not as good. Here is an example and you can decide for youself

Lights Out – Season 3, Episode 50 – 6th August 1951

‘The Faceless Man’

Enjoy

This is a very early verity show from the early 50s. I have never seen this and the quality is not as good as I would like it. Unfortunately for the blind audience allot of it is visual, but if you have a sighted person telling what is happen you may appreciate it. Here is the info I found on this show

1950 episode of The DuMont Network’s ‘Cavalcade of Stars’, hosted by Jerry Lester. Also features a obscure singer, a well-known baseball player and some other people. Variety Series.

So let’s check out this weeks presentation of ‘Cavalcade Of Stars’

Don’t know much about this series, but since I have been playing some sci-fi and different stuff this month I thought I would end it with a children’s show and hope you like it. Here is what I found about this one.

Another incredibly strange episode of ”Captain Video and His Video Rangers”, the DuMont Television Network series which, in fact, was the first science fiction show ever to air on TV. However, to fill up time of each LIVE episode, they showed clips from old westerns. This episode also features original commercials. Reviews of the series at the time were mixed

So enjoy this show, let me know what you think by dropping me a line at mikesmess@gmail.com. Bye for now Here is the show

Invisible Man – Jailbreak 1958

HI all

Well a little late with this one and the next one will be on Feb. 28, so this will last over a week. I may sometimes be late but hope you will understand, as real life gets in the way. Not much to say about this show. I used to watch it on Channel 5 in Los Angeles in the late 50s. It may have even been 1958. I liked it but again I was only 8 yeas old and who knows. This is a good series and I hope you enjoy it. Here is the Wikipedia info on this show

The Invisible Man (on screen title H.G. Wells’ Invisible Man) was a 1958 ITP (Incorporated Television Programme company Ltd) Production/Official Films presentation for Associated TeleVision. The series was networked on CBS in the United States. It ran for 26 half-hour monochrome episodes across two seasons and was nominally based on the novel by H.G. Wells, one of four such television series.

The series follows the adventures of Doctor Peter Brady, a British scientist who, while attempting to achieve invisibility with light refraction (a completely different technique than the protagonist of the novel utilized), has an accident which turns him permanently invisible. He is initially declared a state secret and locked up, but eventually convinces the UK government, represented by Sir Charles Anderson, to allow him to return to his laboratory and search for an antidote (‘Secret Experiment’). Almost immediately, British intelligence recruits him for an assignment (‘Crisis in the Desert’), but soon security is breached (‘Behind the Mask’) and he becomes a celebrity (‘Picnic with Death’), consequently also using his invisibility to help people in trouble, as well as solve crimes and defeat spies for his country

Now here is the invisible man our Mikes Mess TV Presentation for this week

Hope you enjoyed the show, I will be back on the 28th of Feb. with a new show

bye for now
